The Manama skyline has seen rapid development over the last two decades, benefiting from regional and international investments into the business-friendly climate of the Kingdom of Bahrain. As the real estate architecture in the Kingdom evolved, The Bahrain World Trade Center (BWTC), designed by the Architectural firm Atkins and Architect Shaun Killa, has remained an iconic landmark on the city’s waterfront. Inspired by traditional Arabian wind towers, the BWTC is a beacon built to global standards in sustainable architecture. Since its inception, BWTC has set a technological precedent and is recognized as the first skyscraper in the world to have integrated wind turbines designed to help reduce the overall power consumption in the building. The BWTC takes advantage of its central location, harnessing the sea breeze, and can generate up to 15 percent of the office tower’s electricity needs. With its award-winning state-of-the-art design and status as Bahrain’s first “Intelligent Building’’ BWTC continues to inspire new standards in sustainable building and renewable energy solutions that have become an essential component of future design.
